On 10th September 2020 PM, Narender Modi has officially launched the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana through video conferencing in the presence of the Governor and Chief Minister of Bihar, along with Union Minister and MoS for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying. During the period 2020-2021 to 2024-2025 estimated investment of Rs. 20,050 crores are going to be done by the Government for this scheme. Out of which Rs 12340 crores is proposed for beneficiary-oriented activities in Marine, Inland fisheries and Aquaculture, and about Rs. 7710 crores for Fisheries Infrastructure. More Than 29 Lakh Farmers Benefited From The Scheme

The central government has informed that around 29 lakh farmers have benefited from Pradhan Mantri Kisan sampada Yojana. The minister of state for food processing industries Prahlad Singh Patel has informed that there are 20 completed/operational mega Food parks across India and 41 food parks have been sanctioned. Other than that 258 integrated cold chains have been completed and 349 have been sanctioned. For the agro-processing clusters there are 12 completed/operational units and 68 more have been sanctioned. The food processing Ministry has also conducted an evaluation study for the relevant component of the scheme.

Through this study it has been revealed that the scheme has resulted in an increase in farm gate prices by 12.38% and each project is estimated to benefit on average more than 9500 farmers. This scheme was approved by the cabinet in May 2017 for a period of 2016-20. The objective of this scheme is to supplement agriculture, modernize processing and decrease agri waste. It is estimated that the scheme will attract investment of Rs 11.095 crore which can benefit 2849945 farmers and generate 544432 direct and indirect employment in the country by the year 2025-26

Launch Of Matsya Setu 2.0 App

In order to bring inland fisheries trade under a single digital platform, the Government of India has decided to launch a mobile app where farmers, wholesalers, buyers, suppliers of feed and equipment and other members of the value chain will be able to share information regarding market prices and availability of products. This mobile app will be developed by the ICAR-central Institute of freshwater aquaculture, Bhubaneswar.

This app will be called Matsya Setu 2.0. The funding for this app will be done by the National fisheries development board, Hyderabad. The board will also facilitate trade in freshwater fisheries based on the geographical location of the stakeholders. This app will also focus on freshwater fisheries trade where Aqua farmers will get access to price information and availability of suppliers based on geographical location.

Courses Offered Through Madhya Setu 2.0 App

The government is going to launch the Matsya setu app in April 2022. This app will cater business to business segments of the trade. Matsya setu 2.0 app will help farmers with the information on the prices. This app will also have online courses. Through these courses, experts will provide guidance on aquaculture, demonstrate breeding, seed production, and information about commercially important fish like crab, catfish, etc, and pearl farming. In July 2021 an app was also launched under this scheme.

This app will be an upgraded version of the previously launched app. In the previously launched app information about management practices are required to be followed in maintaining soil and water quality, feeding and health management in aquaculture operation was provided. In 2022-23 the central government has also allocated a budget of Rs 1879 crore for Pradhan Mantri matsya Sampada Yojana while 1200 crore was allocated under revised estimate in 2020-21.

Launch Of e-Samadhan Scheme

The minister of animal and fisheries Mr. Mukesh Sahani reviewed the fisheries education on 8 August 2021 including the extension activities which are conducted in fisheries college located at arrabari of Pothia block. The dean of the college has welcomed the Minister and provided detailed information about the activities which are going on in college including the future plans. From the college auditorium, Mr. Mukesh Sahani launched the e-samadhan scheme and highlighted the fact that now the problems related to fish farmers will be resolved. Through this scheme, farmers will overcome the problem of fish farming by using communication media.

Commencement Of Certificate Course For Fisheries Education

The central and state government has launched various kinds of schemes in order to promote fisheries. Now the farmers of Bihar will be able to export the fish to other states and fulfill the consumption of fish in other states. The students in the fisheries college of Arrabari have also been told about the contributions of the State Government for providing facilities for fishery education. To provide fisheries education certificate courses will also be started in this year in all the fisheries colleges which are located in Arrabari. The government is going to soon complete the development of other resources including manpower. The authorities of the college have already made future plans

  • To increase the bargaining power of fishers and fish farmers Collectivization would be done through Fish Farmer Producer Organizations
  • Aquaparks would be developed under the scheme as the hub of multifarious fisheries activities/facilities
  • Establishment of Fisheries Incubation Centres (FICs) both through government and private sector would be supported under PMMSY

  • The scheme will help in enhancing fish production from 137.58 lakh metric tons (2018-19) to 220 lakh metric tons by 2024-25.

  • The scheme will help in boosting an increase in the contribution of GVA of the fisheries sector to the Agriculture GVA from 7.28% in 2018-19 to about 9% by 2024-25.
  • The scheme will double export earnings from Rs.46,589 crores (2018-19) to about Rs.1,00,000 crores by 2024-25.
  • The scheme will improve productivity in aquaculture from the present national average of 3 tonnes to about 5 tonnes per hectare.
  • The scheme will decrease the post-harvest losses from the reported 20-25% to about 10%.

As you all know that the government has launched Pradhanmantri Matsya Sampada Yojana for the fishermen. The main objective of this scheme is to develop the fishery sector.
